Francie Berger, Senior Model Designer Francie got her first set of Lego bricks when she was three and had decided to become an architect by the time she was eight. But while she was studying at Virginia Tech, she heard a visiting professor talk about designing toys. "I knew that was the field for me," she said. Now she spends all day in Lego Heaven -- a roomful of the colorful plastic bricks. Her job is to design the huge, elaborate display models that wow the customers in stores like F.A.O. Schwartz or at the Toy Trade Fair in New York every February. "The hardest thing is to make a person or an animal look lifelike," she said. "It's tough to get the curves just right." We asked Francie about the drawbacks of her job, but we knew what the answer would be before she said it: "There are none. There really is nothing better than this." |
